The hike started off pleasantly. We began on a hilly area that felt like a fantasy adventure. Grassy plains with trees surrounding it and a path on top of the hills. A rafter (group) of turkeys were nearby. The sunny sky slowly became grayer as we walked and began our steep uphill climb. On the way to the top, we saw some rabbits and the rafter again. The gray sky soon became dark and began to pour rain on us.
As we made our climb the weather changed again, becoming a pelting hail as we climbed the hillsides. We made our way to a more flat area and walked through a dense forest. The trees were still wet from the rain as we walked the twisting mountainous path. As we walked we began to see many things.
We soon noticed the path was descending and as we went down we saw many creatures. We saw banana slugs, and even a fuzzy caterpillar. We decided to not take any long breaks and keep moving to keep good time. The ground was very muddy from the rain previously upon us. We spotted a baby rattlesnake as we walked. It began to rain again and one member joked, “It can’t get any worse.” It then began to hail, but the hail only lasted a little while.

As we finished our downhill, we saw an uphill climb that was unexpected. We began to climb, but soon realized we had gone a too far. We turned around and walked back and we found a stream and walked next to it. After a bit we found that our trail had been blocked by a fallen tree and the path around it was dense with poison oak. We made it back to the cars, wet, itchy, and happy to be finished.

Overall, it was a pleasant hike, full of rain, hail, and unexpected challenges needing a scout
solution.
